BASIC GUN DOG TRAINING Level One: 4 to 6 month program

This training level can begin as early as six months of age; however, 8 to 12 months is typical. This course prepares and introduces your dog to the basics. It is during this introductory period where (most of the mistakes) are made by the owner. The proper introduction to guns, birds, obedience, water and retrieving are just a few of the categories where future problems may be avoided. Owners generally are not trainers and their priority is hunting. The dog is frequently pressured into scenarios where there has been little to no preparation resulting in a negative experience which may not be easily corrected
